Altered State of Consciousness (ASC)

A term used to refer to any state of consciousness that is different from "normal" states of waking or sleeping. ASCs include hypnosis, trance, ecstasy, psychedelic and meditative experience. ASCs do not necessarily have paranormal features.

Astral Plane
|
A spiritual plane of existence, where the astral body is free from its physical body. Thought to be approximately three feet above the earth's surface. It is also believed to have several planes, or levels.

Astral Projection
|
The process where our ethereal body, "spirit" is separated from our physical body as the ethereal body visits the astral plane, it is usually brought on intentionally by meditation and lucid dreaming. Also known as an out of body experience. (OBE), though an OBE is considered involuntary.

Aura
|
A glow that emanates from each living being. Invisible to the naked eye, at least by most people. It is thought to change colors depending on the physical and mental well being of the individual.

Automatic Writing
|
A method of obtaining information through a writing process, in which the individual, often a medium in a trance state, is being controlled by a spirit causing them to transfer information on paper without being aware of what is being written.
